The 2021 BMW F 850 GS Adventure is the Ultimate Middleweight Adventure Bike

The 2021 BMW F 850 GS Adventure is the top model in the BMW Motorrad middleweight adventure class, and one of the most exciting motorcycles in the 2021 BMW line-up. It’s an uprated version of the standard F 850 GS, but with plenty of differences that elevate it above the base model.

Like the regular F 850 GS, the F 850 GS Adventure uses a compact European-made liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine. There are no differences between the two, and the 853 cc twin-cylinder powerplant produces the same power outputs of 90 horsepower and 63 lb-ft of torque. The power is transferred to the rear wheel via a six-speed gearbox and a chain drive.

The main differences between the F 850 GS and the GS Adventure are updates to the exterior. The GS Adventure comes equipped with adjustable levers, an adjustable windshield, enduro-style footrests, a tough engine guard, hand protectors, and a stainless-steel luggage rack as standard. Other standard features also include ABS, Automatic Stability Control, selectable ride modes (Rain, Road), an anti-hopping clutch, and LED lighting.

For 2021, the F 850 GS Adventure is available in three color options: Ice Grey, Style Rallye with Kalamata Metallic Gold, and a special edition black and yellow design that celebrates 40 years of the GS brand designation.

The 2021 BMW F 850 GS Adventure starts at $14,545 USD / $16,500 CAD

Please help me. I just bought a 2021 F850GS Adventure. After I bought it, I was told that the engine was made in China. My heart sank to the bottom of my chest. Could you Please look into it for me? I am praying that it is a true European made engine.

      Hi Tom!

Yes the new engines for BMW will be manufactured in China along with engines for KTM for the 890 adventure. The engines are designed in Europe and the specifications are exact due to that fact.

I know judging by your comment that’s a huge deterrent, but it’s worth noting BMW and KTM won’t allow their very successful bikes to be hindered by quality control issues from being manufactured in China or anywhere else. I believe the quality will be there and even if I’m wrong I’m sure you know BMW has an outstanding warranty and product support program. I saw them issue a recall for last year’s F850GS that affected only a handful of bikes for the oil pump.

I have a friend with a first year 850GS who has ridden the wheels off it with very few issues. It’s a solid design and motorcycle that I believe will take good care of you regardless of where the engine is manufactured.

I’m a KTM rider with a deposit down already on the coming soon Norden 901. That engine will be built in China as well and I have no concerns over whether that bike will perform for me.

Of course you could disagree and choose not to take delivery of the 850. There are plenty of other options out there with more coming each year. The new Ducati Mulistrada V4S has me drooling and it’s most definitely a European built machine.

Who cares! China makes good stuff and decent people. Pretty obvious racism.

Oh RJ, racism has nothing to do with it DA. It’s a preference that one has. Why do people have to spin everything towards racism.

Ken, lots of spec info on various sites, but in having owned three previous F850GS models and now with the 2020 F850GSA, it has a 6.1USG or 2.07Imp Gal or 23L tank including 3.5L reserve. My average over three of the 850s, including this GSA is (converted) 52mpg (Imp) or about 43mpg (USG), sometimes its much higher, sometimes lower depending on use/speeds. If we use about 5.2 USG fuel load, a nominal range of 225mi or 362kms is easy. In actual use, I usually fill up around the 430km mark, with 35 to 50kms left on the reserve display – which I’ve taken down to less than 10kms without issue… Wheels are cross-spoke with tubeless tires; add tubes if you want. Cheers, Bruce
