A One Piece Designed for Touring and Commuting
I’ve actually never owned a one-piece rider suit, but I definitely see the appeal for touring and commuting applications. One-piece suits make a lot of sense for both types of riders, and now KLIM has a suit designed for both. The KLIM Hardanger is the latest offering, and it looks pretty promising. Not to mention that KLIM generally puts out quality gear.
So what do you get with the Hardanger? You get a suit that features GORE-TEX construction without a hanging mesh liner to keep it from being bulky. This lack of a bulky liner makes the suit fit more comfortably and allows you to wear a full set of regular street clothes underneath should you wish. The suit also comes with plenty of adjustments to ensure you get the best fit possible.
Underneath, the Hardanger gets D3O molecular armor at all key impact areas like elbows and knees to help keep you safe. The placement of this armor is adjustable, allowing you to make the suit truly fit you well. KLIM claims it took great pains to make the Hardanger extremely comfortable.
KLIM didn’t just think of you wearing the suit on your bike. The company also knows that riders will want to be able to take the riding suit off once they get to their destination. KLIM fitted a D-ring on the suit that easily locks to your bike. This means you can take the suit off once you arrive at your destination, lock it to your bike, and then go do whatever you want.
With an MSRP of $1,300 to $1,350 depending on size, the Hardanger is not a bargain piece of gear, but then you wouldn’t expect it to be. Hopefully, we’ll have a chance to test this suit later this year.
I was interested in this suit until I saw the price. Oh my gosh, for that kind of money it had better walk, talk and stand itself up in the corner of the room until you need it! There are alot of quality pieces of gear that I can buy and accomplish almost the same thing for less money.
It’s pricey, that’s for sure. Having said that, I ordered one a week or so ago and it showed up today. I haven’t had an opportunity to ride with it yet, but I did try it on. I’m 275 lbs, 6’ Tall, with a 30” inseam. It may be a little tall for me, but other than that, the 2X fit well. I bought it direct from Klim since they have a 30-day return window. We’ll see if I can manage with the leg length. Also, note that Klim offers a 30% discount for military/vets.
A 2pc suit, with Goretex and D30 will be just as much. Plus there might be tarrifs involved.
