EBR 1190SX Preview

The Buell EBR 1190SX “Superfighter”

The Buell EBR 1190SX was formally introduced at the 2014 AIMExpo show (Report)in Orlando, Florida.

EBR said the 1190SX is made in the U.S.A. and this “streetfighter” is a takeoff on the EBR 1190RX with full fairing.

The 1190SX appears to be very nicely made and probably the equal of typical Kawasaki, Suzuki or Yamaha build quality.

There are a few “different” details…but then it wouldn’t be a Buell (pardon: EBR) without being different, right?

For example, the too-visible coolant reservoir looks a bit out of place, hanging there in the right front behind the side cover. I would probably have continued the black cover on the side of the bike to hid the big extraction cooling fans also.

But overall, I’m impressed and I’m especially fond of the white version with the dual shorty exhaust tips peeking out. I’d love to hear how it sounds…

As for riding, I’ve heard it’s a handful-and-a-half, which is to be expected for what is basically a no-compromises streetbike. Torque is said to max at 101.6 ft. lbs. at 8,200 RPM (137.8 Nm) and the 1190SX has a massive 185 HP at 10,600 RPM.

EBR is currently running a special intro sale, you get 2G’s off, so the list price is $14,995.00. I’m hoping they have a test ride day somewhere and I also know that many of our webBikeWorld readers are very interested in seeing the upcoming EBR AX dual-sport bike..

From “M.P.” (October 2014): “1. What a ghastly headlight pod. Just utterly atrocious. No provision for screen attachments either from the looks of it.

2. The shorty exhaust looks fantastic but it will burn the heck out of one’s heel and calf and melt their boots. Put the balls of your feet on the pegs and you’ll quickly realize that exhaust blast will be very poorly placed. The shorty needs to make a 90 degree turn and vent straight back.”

Rick’s Reply: I actually thought the headlight treatment was pretty cool-looking and one of the nicer features on the bike…

From “P.M.” (October 2014): “EBR has been touring the country with a truck full of demo bikes. I had the opportunity to ride the EBR 1090SX when they came to Rhode Island. Explosive best describes the initial riding impression of this bike. Don’t expect to use this bike as a commuter or a touring mount, but if you want full throttle action this bike is for you.”
