BMW Launches New Motorcycle Race Helmet
June 15, 2012 – BMW announced a new “Race” helmet today but provided very few details and only a single photo of the prototype. It’s possible that the helmet is being developed in conjunction with Schuberth, who has developed other BMW motorcycle helmets.
Their press release stated the following:
BMW Motorrad developed a Race helmet for sport motorcyclists. BMW Motorrad is going to complete its range of motorcycle helmets with a helmet particularly tailored to the special requirements of sportbike riders.
During many test rides and wind tunnel tests, the “Race” helmet was developed for the special requirements of racing.
Starting on June 15, racers including Joerg Teuchert, Gareth Jones, Lucy Glockner and A Team’s Arie Vos will be equipped with this helmet for the first time. BMW will use the riders‘ input for further development of the helmet.
The Race helmet has been prioritized for safety, aerodynamics, wear comfort, visibility and ventilation. The market launch is scheduled for 2013.
