BMW Tests New Enduro Concept in Competition
April 20, 2007 – BMW’s new 450cc Sports Enduro motorcycle enters World Enduro Championship.
The involvement of BMW Motorrad in off-road sport has a long and successful tradition.
BMW not only wants to perpetuate this success story with high-capacity machines such as the HP2 Enduro (wBW report) but also extend its activities into the attractive and hotly competed 450cc capacity class.
For test purposes only, a BMW team will take part in races of the World Enduro Championship in the E2 class on a new single cylinder Sports Enduro on April 28th and 29th.
This high-prestige competition is to be held in Puerto Lumbreras in the south of Spain and will attract the world’s top sports enduro riders and their bikes. In this tough competitive environment, BMW Motorrad will put its motorcycle concept – specially developed for sports purposes – to the acid test. In terms of engine and chassis, the machine has innovative technical solutions and these will be subject to testing under competitive conditions.
BMW Motorrad was able to recruit the off-road pros Joel Smets and Sascha Eckert as riders. With their experience and expertise they will help optimize the technology of the motorcycle. For this purpose alone, the BMW team will also take part in other well-known races during the course of the 2007 season.
