“Biker Billy” has created an industry with this book. Billy is the gastronomic editor for Cruising Rider magazine and the author of several other cookbooks. He’s appeared with Jay Leno on the Tonight Show (U.S.A.), with Regis Philbin, and on CNN. He’s also been featured in People magazine and Vanity Fair and also with his own cable TV cooking show.
This is a cookbook with many recipes, no doubt about it. It actually has little to do with motorcycling. But it would make a unique gift for any motorcycle owner — the “flavor” of the book is enhanced by some very cool photos of retro motorcycles and their owners, and apparently the recipes have been tried and tested with motorcycle riders of all shapes and sizes.
As a cookbook, it’s actually very good, covering many different cuisines, with Italian (try the “Stuffed Shells from Hell”), Greek, Indian (“Killer Curry”), Mexican, Chinese, Creole and American inspired cooking. You’ll find recipes for everything from bread (“Mammaw’s Yam Bread”) to soup (“Not Gentle Lentil Soup”). The book is filled with many very intriguing recipes that are very different from most other cookbooks, but which are also very appealing and appetizing.
Although many of the recipes call for “kicking it up a notch” with various types of chili peppers, this is by no means an amateur collection of “biker” dishes. The beauty of this book is that Biker Billy has kept the recipes relatively simple and without the exotic ingredients that no one has in their pantry anyway. This makes it easy to explore the various dishes for those who like to try something different but don’t want to spend a lot of time or effort in the kitchen.
