The Modern Bonneville: The 2021 Triumph Street Twin

The Triumph Street Twin is a British motorcycle that has roots dating back to 1959. Taking inspiration from the original 1959 Bonneville, the Street Twin borrows the character and attitude of the past and fuses it with the technology of the present. The result is a practical, modern retro Triumph motorcycle—one of the most exciting models in the 2021 Triumph line-up.

The Street Twin draws power from a powerful 900 cc liquid-cooled, 8-valve, parallel twin Bonneville engine. It’s not designed for blistering performance but the Street Twin manages to produce a modest 65 horsepower and 59 lb-ft of peak torque. The power from this high torque engine is kept under control using Ride-by-Wire technology, switchable traction control, ABS, a torque-assist clutch, and two riding modes.

Triumph’s Speed Twin might look like a vintage motorcycle but it’s packed with modern gadgetry. The highlights of these include Brembo brakes, cartridge forks, cast wheels, premium instrumentation, a rear LED light, an immobilizer, and a USB charging port. Combine those modern features with Triumph’s iconic detailing and a set of upswept exhausts, and you’ve got the ultimate city-cruising motorcycle.

2021 also brings a fascinating addition to the Triumph Street Twin range in the form of the Street Twin Gold Line Limited edition model. Limited to just 1000 units, the Street Twin Gold Line features a number of bespoke details and a unique hand-finished black and gold paint scheme.

For 2021, the Street Twin is available in three color options: Korosi Red, Jet Black, and Matte Ironstone.

The 2021 Triumph Street Twin starts from $9,300 USD / $10,600 CAD.

2021 Triumph Street Twin

2021 Triumph Street Twin Features

BONNEVILLE 1200cc ENGINE

At the new Speed Twin’s heart is an updated high power 1200cc Bonneville twin engine with the celebrated Thruxton performance tune that peaks at 97PS @ 6,750rpm. Evolved from the Thruxton powerplant, this enhanced engine is a low inertia high performance 6-speed 8-valve parallel twin that now features a magnesium cam cover, a revised clutch assembly and mass-optimised engine covers.

THRILLING TORQUE DELIVERY

This is a new kind of performance modern classic, with an exhilarating torque delivery from low down and then right through the range. Torque peaks at 82.6 FT-lbs (@4,950rpm), matching the output of the Thruxton R, and a whole 40% more than Triumph’s latest Street Twin model.

HIGH SPECIFICATIONS

Built to a high performance specification, the Speed Twin noticeably showcases twin Brembo front brakes. In addition, lightweight cast aluminium wheels and high specification Pirelli Diablo Rosso 3 tyres both contribute to the Speed Twin’s class leading agile and dynamic handling. An Anti-locking Braking System (ABS), and traction control that is easily switchable via the left hand switchcube, deliver enhanced control of the Speed Twin’s high torque performance whatever the riding conditions.

DISTINCTIVE TWIN SOUND

This incredible motorcycle has a thrilling deep British roar to match the Speed Twin’s legendary name. The distinctive twin black megaphone upswept sports silencers produce a wonderful throaty sound which is all capably supported by Triumph’s innovative uninterrupted flowing exhaust header run, with hidden cat box, so the lines are as smooth as the ride itself.

CLASS-LEADING HANDLING

The Speed Twin’s newly-designed chassis has been evolved from the Thruxton R and crafted to provide a new benchmark in agile, dynamic riding. Working together with this tailored new frame are high specification front and rear suspension, tuned to deliver a precise modern roadster ride with confidence-inspiring intuitive feel, whether you’re commuting, traveling longer distances or just riding for the fun of it.

ADVANCED RIDER TECHNOLOGY

For maximum possible rider fun, comfort and control, the Speed Twin benefits from a host of advanced technology. Three rider modes – Road, Rain, and Sport – that adjust throttle map and traction control settings to suit conditions and rider preference, the bike’s LED lighting brings greater durability and power efficiency, and the lighter feel of the torque-assist clutch delivers more comfort over long journeys and stop-start urban commutes. In addition, feature-packed twin clocks, immobilizer and a USB socket are all included as standard.

CATEGORY-LEADING DETAILS & FINISH

A huge aspect of the Speed Twin’s allure is its beautiful custom classic looks, which is why the detailing and finish that you’ll find on the Speed Twin are nothing short of category-leading. Specially-crafted brushed aluminum features include mudguards, throttle body covers, side panel finishers, and heel guards. The magnificent aluminum theme continues with a bright anodized forged aluminum headlight bracket and clear anodized aluminum swingarm.

BEAUTIFULLY MODERN CUSTOM STYLE

Triumph’s timeless DNA is at the core of the Speed Twin’s modern classic looks, and this is blended together with a more contemporary stripped-back custom style and poise. Original equipment features also include the Speed Twin’s 14.5-liter signature sculpted fuel tank, the comfortable stylish bench seat, minimal front mudguard & rear end setup with elegant rear light, and bar end mirrors.

CUSTOMISING OPTIONS

The beauty of a Triumph modern classic motorcycle lies in how it has been built with customising in mind, and the Speed Twin has over 80 custom accessories available to enhance your bike’s style, capability, comfort and security and create a true one-off special.
