The 2021 Royal Enfield Classic 500: A Bike for Motorcycle Purists
Contents
The 2021 Royal Enfield Classic 500 follows the mantra that has followed the model line from its inception: If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. The 500 has been around since the post-war years, and, as its name implies, is a classic, uncomplicated standard motorcycle with the ability to cruise endless miles on the open road, or navigate city streets in British style. Its style gives it a robust place in the 2021 Royal Enfield lineup.
For motorcycle purists, the Classic 500 is the kind of bike that speaks to them. No frills, no gimmicks, no 20-setting traction, and stability control. With this bike, what you see really is what you get. It carries Royal Enfield’s timeless and time-tested 499cc single-cylinder thumper at its core, pushing out 27.2 BHP and 30.5 lbs-ft of crank torque. And, if you like, you can kick start it. When they say it’s stripped down and simple, they mean it.
That’s not to say it doesn’t have modern conveniences, though. There is an electric starter, and it does come with dual-channel ABS. It has telescopic front forks, and twin coil-over gas shocks at the rear. The center stand is built sturdy and strong and is simple to operate.
There are currently 5 models of the Classic 500, which basically cover the color and chroming options. The Classic 500 itself has chromed exhaust but is blacked out pretty much everywhere else. The Stealth Black is fully murdered, dark as the night, and looking mean. The Classic Chrome features a lot of chrome for those that like their bikes shiny and clean. The Classic Gunmetal features a matte gunmetal finish with chrome headlight surround and exhaust. And finally, the Classic 500 Battle Green features army olive green as its color of choice and has chrome exhaust which lifts at the back for more rough-road and cross country style riding.
The 2021 Royal Enfield Classic 500 starts at $5,599 USD / $7,299 CAD depending on sub-model.
