The British-made 2021 Himalayan has been one of the most anticipated models from Royal Enfield in a long time. Ever since the introduction of the model to North America in 2017, it has been the highest-selling model of the brand. The anticipation for the 2021 model, however, is because of a few small, but extremely in-demand upgrades to the bike.
The smaller upgrades for the 2021 Himalayan include three new colors in Lake Blue, Gravel Grey, or Rock Red. As well, there is now a hazard light switch on the handlebars, something that the bike, being a super simple scrambler, didn’t have before. As well, the stand has been shortened slightly and given a much stiffer spring, to keep it up and out of the way across all types of terrain.
However, the biggest upgrade that has been requested for years has arrived: an ABS on/off switch. And not a half off or partially off switch. When the switch is pressed, the ABS controller is powered off, so it will truly be off. For those that take the 2021 Himalayan trail riding, desert scrambling, or across other loose surfaces, the ability to lock the rear wheel for control and tight turns is vital.
The bike otherwise retains the 411cc single-cylinder thumper from 2020, with 25 BHP and 25.6 lbs-ft of crank torque. As the Himalayan is a dual-sport, these numbers may not sound all that impressive, but the torque is key for scrambling over rough obstacles, and you often don’t want to be flying down trail runs at 100 MPH.
