KTM’s just revealed their updated 2022 450 SMR – and this beastie is ready to roar for the SuperMoto world.
Based on the SX-F motocrosser, the KTM SMR’s compact, single overhead camshaft engine is purportedly blessed with 63 pretty ponies, as well as a generous handful of torque that shows off the power band curve and gear mapping typical of a Pankl Racing Systems 5-speed gearbox.
Weighing in at a light 27kg, the 2022 450 SMR’s motor has been adjusted and optimized, with the weight coming clean at a nifty 27kg to keep the SMR nimble and responsive.
The 450 SMR has also been gifted with a rather sensitive 44 mm Keihin throttle, as well as a chromium-molybdenum steel frame that makes full use of torsion and flex (think “attackable”) via a three-way amendable handlebar and CNC-machined triple clamps.
The list of quality parts doesn’t stop there; KTM has outfitted the SMR with WP Suspension XACT AER 48 mm forks as well as an XACT rear shock, 16.5″ /17″ ALPINA light, spoked tubeless wheels, a beautiful Brembo 4-piston radial caliper, and master cylinder set-up with 310 mm and 220 mm front and rear discs, and a nice anti-hopper/slipper clutch for that seamless straightaway.
To top it all off, KTM has wrapped the 2022 SMR in the house colors with a factory blue seat, a frame coated in the KTM orange, and race graphics to keep the focus spiffy.
With KTM releasing the race-inspired 2022 KTM RC390 this year, it’s obvious the Austrian motorcycle and the sports car manufacturer has their sights set on moto podiums bleeding orange across the country.
