Dear Sir,
I am 68 years old. Male. Height – 5’5″ tall. Body Weight : 66 kg as at 29.7.21. I plan to travel from Kuala Lumpur to Central Asia by road . Thinking of buying Softail Low Rider because of its seat height and fuel tank capacity of 5 gallons.
I have never ridden a Harley before.
Question : Is the Softail Low Rider for such travel and sometimes one may have to travel off road especially through Burma and Pakistan. Is riding on the Low Rider a suitable and right choice ? Your valuable and honest advise is appreciated. TQ
Ah yes one of the most challenging of questions, “would this be a good bike for…”. Let me see if I can help by giving you a few things to consider. How important is it for you on this ride that the bike has certain handling traits? Does the bike need to be nimble for easy movement in traffic or to avoid obstacles on poor roads? Are you able to pick up a 310kg bike if you are alone and drop it? How much “stuff” do I need to pack along on the bike?
Is the Softail Low Rider capable of such a trip? Certainly, it is, I would just be looking to change the tires for a set suitable for the conditions you expect to find. Need some proof? Have fun watching Million Dollar Bogan on youtube taking Harleys in places most never would.

The most important factor is your experience level. Harley Davidson bikes require a muscled approach when trying to take through more challenging terrain. They are more than tough enough but remember they are designed for long open paved roads of America. How much similar terrain will you be traveling on?
Good Luck, sounds like a very fun trip.
