Small Upgrades For The 2020 Honda Gold Wing

Honda’s flagship touring motorcycle returns for 2020 with a small package of new updates to guarantee you a comfortable cruise, whether you’re riding for 20 miles or 200. The GL1800 Gold Wing is undoubtedly one of Honda’s most popular motorcycles and the gold standard when it comes to touring, for 2020 the Gold Wing’s new tweaks and upgrades underline Honda’s touring dominance.

At the heart of the new 2020 Honda Gold Wing you’ll find the same solid and reliable horizontally-opposed six-cylinder 1833cc engine, but unlike in previous generations the overall weight has been reduced by over 13 pounds. In terms of performance, not much has changed since last year but Honda has added some interesting features to keep you interested for 2020.

The suspension system has been updated at the front and rear to improve the ride experience for pillions, improving stability and damping. Next, Honda has rolled out a number of software updates on the Gold Wing’s navigation, and boosted smart technology compatibility by adding saddle-bag mounted USB chargers to all models—a feature that was previously exclusive to the Gold Wing Airbag model.

The 2020 Gold Wing also features a new button for the center storage pocket for improved ergonomics, and a new color scheme: Matte Black Metallic with additional red anodized surfaces.

2020 Honda Gold Wing Features

Engine Features

The Gold Wing’s horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine is famously smooth and powerful. The latest version is an 1833cc design that’s over 13 pounds lighter than the previous generation (more than 8 pounds for the DCT versions).

Aluminum Cylinder Sleeves

High-strength aluminum cylinder sleeves help reduce weight, increase cooling efficiency, and reduce engine length. The 73mm cylinder bore and short, high-strength crankshaft also help make the engine more compact.

Unicam Cylinder Head Design

The Gold Wing’s engine uses four-valve, Unicam® cylinder head design. That improves engine performance and power, and also contributes to the engine’s weight reduction from its previous generation. The four-valve per cylinder design is also a big part of the Gold Wing’s superior fuel efficiency.

6-Speed Manual Transmission

Want a manual transmission? The latest Gold Wings offer the best conventional gearbox in Gold Wing history. Case in point: an overdrive sixth gear so highway cruising is smoother than ever.

Slipper Clutch

We’ve given our manual-transmission Gold Wings a slipper clutch, just like our premium sportbikes. It only makes sense—the 1833cc engine delivers tons of power, and the new chassis lets you ride this Gold Wing like a sportbike. Twisty roads? Bring ’em on!

Double-Wall Exhaust Pipes

You may think this is just for cosmetics, but on a hot day single-wall exhaust pipes can throw off a lot of heat. The Gold Wing’s twin-wall design keeps things cooler. Plus, this is the best sounding Gold Wing we’ve ever built!

Fuel Efficiency

Because the 2020 Gold Wing is light, you’d expect it to be fuel efficient. But its weight is just the start. Combined with the bike’s engine, intake system, and four-valve design, estimated fuel economy is up 22 percent from the previous generation.* Want to really squeeze the last mile out of every drop? Try the “Econ” ride mode setting.

*Honda’s fuel economy estimates are based on EPA exhaust emission measurement test procedures and are intended for comparison purposes only. Your actual mileage will vary depending on how you ride, how you maintain your vehicle, weather, road conditions, tire pressure, installation of accessories, cargo, rider and passenger weight, and other factors.

Cruise Control

Of course the 2020 Gold Wing still features cruise control—it was one of the first touring bikes to offer the feature. And now, with our stellar throttle-by-wire system, it’s better than ever.

I have a Honda Rune and new BMW Bagger. I don’t know what it is about German stuff but my Mercedes and BMW seats are as hard as Hell. The Rune is set up like a Goldwing,
It’s like a Caddie. The Bagger is like a Hot Rod.

I can go 200 miles on the Honda, take a break and go another 200. I need a nap if I go 200 miles on K1800B. I’ve bought a inflatable seat augmentation. I hope it help because the Bagger is way more fun to ride. If I’m not taking a nap!

I can’t understand the need to talk about horsepower here. It’s not a bike that kids ride and boast RWHP and standing quarter times.
Torque is the magic word, surely. That’s what you feel as you wind on the throttle

Fantastic computer driven bike. It has 3 modes, rain, road and hyper. Retail cost of new and factor of depreciation and dealer repair your looking at 7 years $80,000 so buy used. And fix up at $16,000. Be smart and practice it’s in the expert class not the first motorcycle bike maybe your 10th and wear your armor as I do.
