Aprilia’s New Sports Concept: The 2020 Aprilia RS 660
Contents
Aprilia’s new middle-weight super sport machine has got everyone talking. Over the years, Aprilia has earned a reputation for small-capacity racing mastery, thanks to the success of their RS125 and RS250 sports machines. The brand has also stamped their authority all over the large-displacement sports market in the form of their legendary RSV4 machinery. But there was nothing in between the two—until now.
It’s called the RS 660, and Aprilia has promised that it’s not just a new model: it’s the beginning of an all-new platform that will likely take the industry by storm. Powered by an all new 660cc parallel-twin engine that produces up to 100 horsepower, the new engine design takes engineering inspiration directly from Aprilia’s V4 1100cc units but scaled down for compact efficiency.
The engine is partnered with an incredibly lightweight frame and top shelf components. All in, the new RS 660 weighs only 372 lbs dry. The suspension is handled by Kiyaba and Sachs, with braking duties controlled by Brembo and Bosch, with cornering ABS thrown in for good measure.
The cornering ABS is just one of a myriad of exciting rider aids included on the RS 660. Other features include 3 selectable ride modes, multiple engine mappings, engine brake control, traction, wheelie, and cruise control, all controlled by an intelligent 6-axis inertial measurement unit, and a quickshifter, too.
The exciting 2020 Aprilia RS 660 will be available in two color schemes: a stylish, all black model, or with a purple and red heritage livery that pay homage to the 1994 RS 250.
