BMW Gets the Message: Retro Sells
If anyone could do retro — and if anyone should have jumped on the retro bandwagon long ago — it’s BMW.
The German company, in their inimitable way, decided that only the future held promise. Retro is so…stale. Or something.
The R NineT sort of changed that; it’s “Retro Light”. But now BMW has the fever (sales numbers will do that) and plans are in the works for a whole series of retro bikes.
How many, what and when it still up in the air. But BMW recently showed an R nineT based scrambler, roadster and a very cool-looking half-faired cafe racer version, all in Europe.
They brought the scrambler over for the AIMExpo show; it has a surfboard rack, complete with the board.
Possibly more info and details will be announced at EICMA, along with the new BMW 300 (DOHC, liquid cooled, 310 cc single), shown recently as a Chris Pfeiffer stunt bike.
